FAQ

Pergolas

  • The standard material is Western Red Cedar. However, pressure treated pine is also available.

  • Yes. Paint, stain, or clear sealer can be applied to the pergola. We recommend it is done at the factory so this task is avoided after it is installed. It is not recommended to add any finish coat to pressure treated pine until it has fully dried. This can take several months.

  • Pergola's can be installed on decks, pavers, concrete, and even in grass with the proper foundation.

  • Based on the installation surface, the appropriate fastening system should be used. We include a compression anchor system designed for concrete patios and concrete footers. Simply drill a 5/8" hole in the concrete, insert the anchor bolt and tighten down the nut and washer to set the anchor. The second part of our anchor system is a threaded rod running through the center of the pergola posts which are secured to the anchor bolt using a coupling nut. The posts and headers are then secured to the threaded rod with a washer and nut at the top of the pergola corner.

  • Depending upon the desired look, the pergola can be zero maintenance and will "weather" over time. If you want to keep a "luster" to the pergola, then it will be necessary to add paint, sealer, or stain as needed. This can vary from 2-5 years.

As the pergola ages, the wood will expand and contract and can loosen some of the connection points. Once or twice a year, you should re-tighten the washer and nuts securing the pergola to the anchor and threaded rod system.

  • Yes. We offer both "attached" and "free standing" pergola's based on the customer's needs and requirements. In most areas, attaching a pergola to the house will require a building permit.

  • Yes. There is a wide variety of both shapes and sizes of columns. We can match most any existing column. Contact our designers if you have specific column style you are trying to match

Outdoor Kitchens

  • A factory environment allows for a better control of quality, no weather delays, lower cost, no mess left in the yard, etc.

  • We can't change the basic layout unless we design a custom kitchen for you. Our standard outdoor kitchen designs are built-to-order using standard components, frames and counter-tops ordered specifically for the model you choose. You have a choice of finishes including granite, stones, and stucco colors. This allows you to "customize" the standard models to fit your tastes. If you require more customization, contact our design team at 859-721-0159.

  • Kitchens can be placed on most any flat surface other than grass (deck, pavers, concrete, etc.)

  • Generally speaking, the maintenance is very low. The kitchen should be kept clean and free of debris and the countertop (tile, granite, stone, etc.) should be sealed once a year with the appropriate sealer.

  • All products are manufactured with the highest quality, outdoor rated materials. However, it is recommended that the kitchen be covered during long periods of non use, as well as during the winter months.

  • Yes. This is a huge advantage over kitchens that are permanently built on-site. Not only can it be moved to a new home, but it can also be moved to a different location at your current home, if you later decide to expand your outdoor living space.

  • Yes, but the project will have to quoted as a custom design. An alternative, is to order an unfinished standard model and have a local contractor apply the finishes used on your home. Contact our design team at 859-721-0159 for more information.

Fire Pits

  • No. The fire pit appliance is rated for outdoors only. They cannot be in an enclosed space.

  • Yes. The standard fire pits are available in 26" or 30" height, depending upon the particular model. However, if you require a specific height, we can easily create one to your preferred fire pit height.

  • Gas Fire Tables can be placed on wood decks or concrete/paver patios. A minimum of 60" clearance from combustibles is required. Wood-burning fire pits must be placed on a non-combustible base usually made with 6-8" of crushed gravel and a 1" sand layer. Concrete and pavers are an acceptable base, but the fire pit has a drain hole in the bottom and will drain onto and discolor your patio surface. Work with your patio contractor to prepare a drainage base under the fire pit to elimanate drainage issues. Wood-burning fire pits need to be a minimum of 10' away from cumbustible materials including any tree canopy overhang.

  • Generally speaking, the maintenance is very low. The fire pit should be kept clean and free of debris and the countertop (tile, granite, stone, etc.) should be sealed once a year with the appropriate sealer.

  • All products are manufactured with the highest quality, outdoor rated materials. However, it is recommended that the fire pit be covered during long periods of non use, as well as during winter months.

  • Yes. Not only can a fire pit be fueled by Natural Gas or Propane, but they can also be designed as wood burning. However, wood burning fire pits must be placed on a non-combustible surface.

  • The amount of operating time will vary based on the setting of the flame height, but on average, a fire pit will operate 4-6 hours on the high setting.

  • All fire pits come standard with clear molded fire glass, but there are many additional colors to choose from as an upgrade option.

  • We recommend not to cook over a gas fire pit. If food happened to fall into the glass, it is possible that some of the burner holes could become blocked and eventually the glass will become very dirty and need to be replaced.

  • No. The fire pit appliances are designed to let water pass directly through the burner. The wood burning fire pits have a drain hole in the bottom as well and will not collect water.
